Agreed, and a selfish asshole might well use that argument to justify his or her selfish assholery.

Thing is, what I talk about is only one of five or six different yogas. The best known is of course hatha yoga, the exercise/posture thing. Other yogas include the way of meditation, and the way of doing good works, and I would not presume to judge which is "better." Whatever floats yer boat.

That said, I still maintain that the three greatest things are faith, hope and charity, and the greatest of these is charity. (None of these need involve action.) "Charity", however, is a mistranslation of the Greek "caritas", and is better called "unconditional love." This in the sense that we are urged to love our neighbor as ourself.

What charities have you given to that offer no monetary reparations? Also giving blood is a trend so it really can't be considered good will, as many people do it for no reason other than saying they did it.
While I kind of agree about giving blood being a trendy 'charity', don't knock money-back aid programs. Take kiva.org for example. It lets people microfinance 3rd world businesses by loaning them money. When they repay the loan you can withdraw it again or you can loan it to another business.
I loaned 300 bucks to some dude in kenya to repair his motorbike taxi.
I think this sort of thing is better than pure donations. People and nations develop dependency if all they get is handouts, although on the lowest level they're always gunna need some (people starving and homeless really can't pay off loans for example).
