How do we grade sins?

Are they all equal, or are some worse than others?

Does God see a rapist as being worse than a murderer? What about a raping murderer? Does he get a longer eternity in Hell than a CEO guilty of fraud and tax evasion? Is tax evasion a sin?

If you smoke pot, but you don't masturbate, does the one atone for the other? And if you're a raping murderer and you get raped and murdered, does that atone for your sins, or must you still hang out with the demons in the seventh circle or where ever it is?

Sin is sin. Its a true/false statement of your balance that gets you to heaven.

Sin is judge according to the severity. Pious Joe the Catholic is going to get a far lighter sentence in hell than Hitler.

If you were merrily driving down the road and a 50 year old lady jumps out in front of you and you own her, you really cant say its a sin because nothing you could do could have avoided her.

It is a sin, however, to break the law.

Wrong. According to Catholics (who were Christian the last time I checked), there are mortal sins and venal sins. Sins of omission and sins of commission.

According to Orthodox Jews, breaking ANY of the 450 or so laws set down in the Torah is the same as breaking any of the commandments.

In reality, there is no such thing as a sin. Some actions serve us, some don't.

Labelling a given action as a sin says more about the labeller than the action.

According to the Bible, all sins are equal, except one.

Rejection of God is the only unforgivable sin.

Everything else is not graded by severity. A blemish upon a white sheet is still a blemish, no matter what it is comprised of.
