when I was younger my parents would bring me to church, and to sunday school when i was even younger. I clearly remember thinking that christianity was sort of a joke or a lie that parents would tell to make you feel better about yourself and life in general. At that young age I related god to the "easter bunny" or "santa", or any other thing that i thought was fake. (i dont recall who informed me at that young age how santa and the easter bunny were made up)

I also remember at sunday school when the lady that told us about religion said how jesus came back from the dead or something like that, when i heard this, right away i thought that someone was trying to pull a vail over my eyes, sort of speak.

Im not sure why i thought this way at that young age, did anyone else?

(by the way i am agnostic)+ (i hope my post made sense, im really tired now.)

That's why I will NEVER make my kids go to church. Unless they will want to... for some weird reason.

I was born catholic and went to a catholic private school for Pre-K and Kindergarden. I had gone to church every sunday for the 1st 5 years of my life or so. Well this was caused by my mom. My dad was an agnostic, but let my mom influence me, that pussy bastard... well anyways around 7, 8, or 9 I stopped going to church. Ever since I was little I was interested in science, but I had never heard of the concept of evolution til my later elementrary years, this made me think about stuff, and I came to the conclusion that god doesn't exist at 10 years old for sure. Ive been a happy little atheist ever since, and I curse my mom for sending me to church, but I forgave her cause she bought me a car and raised me pretty well, except for the whole church part. I could've done without that.

Same here.

I remember thinking along the lines of this - If the easter bunny, tooth fairy and Santa were lies told to us too keep us good, then what stops God from falling into the same catagory?

I was one very sceptical child.

I think we greatly underestimate young kids when we tell them these stories and by the age of 7 or 8 most of them are able to see through much of this. (But they're not going to tell you that at risk of not getting any more presents)

Although religion, in this case Christianity, is now commonly rejected by youth today, church is nevertheless an excellent institution for young and old.

It gives ample opportunity for things that are given low-priority in today's busy life, and teaches valuable lessons, virtues, and addresses many current issues and affairs.

I did not attend church as a child, but one day when I have children of my own, I will bring them to church, teach them to think critically, form their own decisions, but to at least appreciate the values taught within.

Right. Sit the kids down and ask them to think about some things. You'll see they have alot (the ones that matter) of those values and "morals" without ever having them taught from an old book of fairytales.

Values are based in human nature and the responsibilities that come with you having a place in your culture, not from an invisible man in the sky.
