When I was living in France, it annoyed the hell of me when the mother said, "tiens" or "yaourt." "Tiens" means literally "hold," but you say it when you're handing someone something, like "here" in English. "Yaourt" is yogurt.

Two words I just dislike, for no apparant reason, are cherish and cloth. I can't explain it, but they just sound wrong to me.

I also have problems with the word fanny, when it's used to mean someone's backside. It just seems ridiculous
