theists believe that god was the first to create the first. (if that doesn't make sense, it means that if you trace everything that exists today, back to one single thing, you'd call that very first thing, ''god.'') this argument is called the argument of the ''first cause.''
now, from an atheist's point of view, if there can be one thing which spawned everything else into existence, you might as well consider it the universe, instead of god. if god doesn't need to have a creator, why does the universe?
