You don't need a marketable second skill if you're capable of getting into a decent law school, although certain majors open up more options. Majoring in science would help you get work as a patent...

Vet school takes as long as med school and costs about as much. The requirements for becoming a physician are the same as for becoming a surgeon (i.e. you need to go to med school.)
