obtaining hashed passwords

Are there ways to obtain hashed passwords by sifting through the source code of an email? i used to know how to do this, but i forgot and cant find anything on how to do it anymore. a description or a link to a tutorial would be greatly appreciated!

Not that I know of. It seems like that would be woefully undersecured if it just sent it with the email for no real reason.

No idea. I stopped learning how to hack way back when I was in high school. Last time I checked windows had problems with hashing their passwords. You used to be able to load a Linux boot disk and be able to not only bypass the windows password at the beginning, but read all the password files.

^ That. I can see encryption of some sort, but why would it ever contain the password?

It feels like it would be easier if you just installed a key logger on a computer or just some simple phishing scam. People are generally pretty dumb.
