Re: Shitty movies that everyone loves
Definitely Donnie Darko. My god, I was so psyched to see it because everyone had been so crazy about it.. and then I saw it.. and I was not amused.
Also, Lost in Translation, Million Dollar Baby and Memoirs of a Geisha.

Re: Shitty movies that everyone loves
I like a lot of the movies mentioned. I tend to disregard the hype people give movies, because I don't trust many peoples opinions on movies, and I try to watch the movie ignoring the fact that Bob, Jimmy, and Sarah say this is their favorite movie of all time. This seems to let me see a movie as it really is.
Because, yes, people super-hyping an ok movie can make the movie even worse than it really is.
Surprised no one mentioned '300,' but maybe all you kids liked that movie.

That movie could be put in the dictionary under the word "hype". I liked that movie..I lreally liked it. But it wasn't the fucking awesome testosterone-fest everyone said it would be.
Plus, barely any of the people who saw the movie actually read the graphic novel by Miller. Most of the people who saw it didn't have a clue that it was an adaptation. Until the credits rolled, of course.

Re: Shitty movies that everyone loves
I knew 300 was a comic book adaption and knowing that let me appreciate the movie a little more than my friend who was expecting some historical accuracy. Frankly he was stupid for expecting that. It looked stylized as all hell in the trailer and that's exactly what we got.

^ I love Garden State! Although I purely put that down to being a female.
Donnie Darko I don't agree with either, its not shitty, its at least half decent. I watched it again last night for the 2nd time and everything finally clicked for me as far as the story went.
Clerks is pretty fucking shit though, although thats not exactly a well known popular movie(s).

These were awesome, don't know what your problem was.
But yeah, the one really popular movie I never liked was The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I mean, it wasn't completely bad, it was entertaining for the first time, but I don't see it as coming off as such badass shit that people make it out to be.

Do.
I disagree about Donnie Darko and Butterfly effect. I think they are both good deffo.
I was pissed about how people rave about x-men and spiderman. They could have been collosal movies but instead they are just mediocre imo.

Re: Shitty movies that everyone loves
Lost in Translation is a big one for me. For those who really like this movie, can you please explain why? I really want to know.
