Default CD Data Recovery [Scratched game disc]

My Oblivion play/install disc is a bit scratched from various abuse over time, it worked fine but I formatted this hard drive and after I tried to install it again, it seems at around 83% it can't read it, which cancels in installation.

Quote:
Feature transfer Error
Feature: Oblivion
Component: Oblivion
File: E:\data7.cab
Error: Incorrect function
My question is, does anyone know of any software to recover these missing parts?

I'm considering taking the entire thing down with brass polisher or something of the sort and seeing if that works but I'd like to try something less drastic first.

I tried ripping it with ISO buster as well, but it goes fine until 83%, then took about 2 hours to get past 83% and onto 84% so I pretty much gave up. Does anyone know if I leave it it'll make a proper rip of it or will it just stay stuck on 84/85%?

Thanks

CD Recovery Toolbox Free
recover files from scratched CDs

Our Rating: 3.5 stars (Good!)

CD Recovery Toolbox Free is a data recovery tool, designed to recover files from scratched or otherwise damaged or corrupt CD, DVD, HD DVD and Blu-Ray disks. Just select the drive that contains the media you want to recover from, check the files you want to restore and start the recovery process. Depending on the level of damage, the recovery process may take a long time, and may not recover all the files. It did recover a good portion of images for us from a badly scratched CD that Windows was not able to read properly.

I don't see how software can read unreadable sectors on the disc.

If it's a light scratch, try using a different CD-ROM drive as some drives have better error correction than others.

Then I'd attack it with the Brasso. Concentrate on the area around the spindle (the TOC, table of contents) as a small scratch here can prevent the drive from reading a good part of the disc.

ive heard toothpaste makes it readable again. all you really need to do is get an iso of it and burn it off again, so long term damage isn't an issue.

I'd go with jesus, just leave it overnight / few days and see.

If that doesn't work, you hypothetically know what to do.

I set it to ignore errors and left it, took a while but finished ripping the ISO. I mounted it (first with my pen0r, then with Alcohol 120% and it started up fine. Probably going to bug to fuck once I get playing, but I'm hoping for the best.
