Today, and for quite some time now, there has been a major problem in the Roman Catholic Church's theology, and by extension the theology of those protestant churches which have broken off from the Roman Catholic Church and not changed the doctrine since. What is it? Paedobaptism. There is no Biblical justification for this sort of action, nor is there any Biblical validity to so called "baptisms" carried out before someone is converted or not performed by full immersion.
Baptism is an important spiritual matter, but most churches today have gotten it wrong. Here's a good treatise on the matter which I highly recommend: http://www.scripturesforamerica.org/book%20files/HOW%20TO%20BECOME%20A%20CHRISTIAN.pdf
