View Full Version : Kimbo Slice v. Ken Shamrock

EliteXC October 4th on CBS.

I feel like this fight is getting way to much hype. Kimbo Slice (Kevin Ferguson?) is brawler and has only fought wash ups. Ken Shamrock has years of experience but is old and past his prime. The last fight was the most watch televised MMA match to date, and skill wise it was lacking.

My predictions:
Ken is going to try and take the fight to the ground but fail miserably because he is 45. Kimbo is going to catch Ken in the face/head with several punches resulting in a knockout.

Watch if you like seeing haymakers, don't watch if you an MMA fan.

Yea that's pretty much how I see it going too.
Shamrock is beyond washed up, his record is 0-5 in the last 3 years and 2-8 since the year 2000. I guess Kimbo's promoters see this as a way to try to legitimize him and be able to market him as someone who beat one of the greats. I think anyone who's been following MMA for a while will see through it though.

you put the wrong date in OP, it's on oct 4.

Agreed with everyone else... this is just kimbo vs mercer #2 in a way.

Ken Shamrock IS old, but he does stay in good condition. And unless I am mistaken has never had a conditioning problem. Slice would gas out if the fight got past the first few minutes.

I'm putting the odds at about 50/50 for Shamrock vs Kimbo.

Shamrock is old, slow, has lost his past 5 fights, and generally doesn't come into fights with very good game plans.

Kimbo is very inexperienced and probably won't respond well if he's put up against Shamrock's years of grappling experience.

If Shamrock comes in with a smart plan and gets Kimbo to the ground, I see him coming out with a submission victory. If he stupidly tries to stay up and box with Kimbo, he will lose.

Personally I love to see big guys who know nothing more than swing their fists get submitted. It would also be nice to put down all the budding casual fanboys who think Kimbo Slice is the most awesome force in the sport right now. I'm hoping Shamrock pulls it off.

Me too HARDMAN.

One thing I also want to see, is KImbo fight a REAL heavyweight boxer. A lot of MMA fans out there have this idea that though Kimbo fights MMA, he would clean house if he switched to boxing... because he easily beat the 'former heavweight champion Ray Mercer'. Well thats nice. Except, Ray Mercer was never the heavyweight champion. He beat a decent fighter to get probably the least important major TITLE... and then promptly lost it. At his prime he WAS a very good boxer, INCREDIBLY tough - going the distance with Lennox Lewis (head to head the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time - and one of the biggest punchers of all time.. and Mercer just walked through his big right uperpcuts and overhand rights) and Evander Holyfield. All that said though... when he fought Kimbo Slice, he was SHOT. To MMA fans who haven't seen guys deteriorate after a long HARD career... by shot I mean.... effectively, their brain is too damaged to fight effectively. Mercer's reflexes were completely gone, his legs were weak, his handspeed was nonexistant, and even his power is mostly not there anymore as well. Beating a guy like this, who has NO experience in anything other than boxing, and who is quite frankly just OLD. To be an MMA fighter? No, but old considering he had a LOT amateur career, and a long HARD professional career. Going the distance with so many BIG punchers - Lewis, Holmes, Holyfield (not a big puncher, but he hit Mercer a LOT on the chin), and getting knocked out by Klitschko and Briggs! And even knocked out by a couple of nobodies.

Anyway.. I would LOOOOVE to see Kimbo Slice fight Wladimir Klitschko. Klitschko would absolutely DESTROY him.

Ken would have been absolutely murdered by Kimbo, but there's no way the fight will go ahead now.
I think the only option for Elite is to give Kimbo Brett Rogers next. It will be a very tough fight for him but its his only real chance of redemption at this stage.

At least have a rematch with this guy. Bit of heat avenging his pathetic loss.

Fun Fact: Kimbo has two sons named Kevin, and one son named Kevlar.

That fight= Bullshit reffing. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm not saying Kimbo would have won, but the fight was by no means over....last time I checked you don't stop fights when people are getting up and back at it.

Well I don't know what the specifics are here, but usually 'intelligent defense' is required... You know like not laying there with your hands 3 feet apart;)

Kimbo was out. He tried taking the ref down (http://www.sherdog.com/pictures/gallery/fighter/f_22388/67762/3) because he had no idea what was going on. Troy isn't the best ref, but he made the right decision here.

i agree, elite XC brings in a lot more viewers, which would make for more politics, i honestly think the fight was fixed, but whatever

If it was fixed I think they would have fixed it for Kimbo to win. Kimbo is the one they've been hyping up, had a bigger reputation, and is one of the 'featured fighters' on the elite xc website. They're putting effort in to him and I doubt they wanted to see him lose.
Petruzelli wasn't even supposed to be fighting and no one really knows who he is.

The fight was not fixed. Those punches didn't seem to do any damage but Kimbo was laying there like a dumb ape not defending himself at all.

I'm interested how the fuck George Foreman is still able to beat some of boxers in his late 40's and 50's.

Oh and Hopkins.

Oh and...I think Ken have 50% of the chance of beating Kimbo.

Absolutely not. If anything, the ref let the fight continue for longer than most refs would have. Kimbo wasn't defending himself at all, and would have just taken several more blows to the head with each passing second.
