View Full Version : Who do YOU think is the biggest bust?

For whatever sport you want. I think it will be mostly about NBA and NFl because they're the most highly criticizes and rookies can make the biggest differences in these sports.
NFL: David Carr
NBA: Emeka Okafor
Those are the only sports I really follow though.
Okafor is a decent center. Surely not a bigger bust than Sam Bowie and Derrick Coleman, not even really a bust at all at this point really.
To answer the question, it's Bowie, although that Ryan Leaf guy seemed pretty awful too, but I don't know much about that.

He;s not bad, but I don't think he is living up to hype he recieved coming into the league.
Ryan Leaf for the fucking win

WHAT? DC? this is his ppg for his first 5 years in the league
90-91 18.4
91-92 19.8
92-93 20.7
93-94 20.2
94-95 20.5
how about LaRue Martin drafted No. 1 overall by the trailblazers and only lasted 4-5 years in the league.
im surprised no one has mentioned kwame brown.
nfl, ryan leaf is at the top...akili smith close behind...

How do you figure Emeka Okafor as a bust?? Sure #2 overall sets pretty high expectations, but the dude is easily a 15/10 player, not to mention his shot blocking ability. He's already an all-star caliber player.
Personally I gotta agree and go with Bowie, but more recently you can't forget about Darko>DWade.

nobody expected darko to be sensational. Everyone knew they made a very very very bad choice.

Yes I am old. For those of you that remember these two guys, there were dozens of commercials for what seemd like months building up to the 1992 olympics. One of the guys got hurt and the other one didn't even qualify.
That and Bode Miller for the 2006 winter Olympics in Torino. He sucked ass.

In the NFL right now the three biggest busts are Reggie Bush, Vince Young, and Matt Leniert.
Mainly i would have to say Reggie Bush is even a worse bust than even Ryan Leaf.
He had so much publicity and people claiming he was gonna be the greatest to ever play the Running Back position. He hasn't lived up to the hype in the least bit.

Vince Young, and Matt Leniert.

Ehhh, its close. I mean, he had a great swing and some o-k power, but he didn't really have the athleticism to play the field. :p

Oh yeah, those damn Dan or Dave commercials were fucking everywhere... I laughed when the one didn't even make it.
Me being old too... Does no one remember The 'Boz? Brian Bosworth was awful and more hyped than Leaf ever was... of course so were Todd Marinovich and Dan McGuire.
NBA? Well being a bit of a Pacers homer Jonathan Bender was a huge fucking waste.

I blame the bears for that. Now the guy hasn't played much in years and he's trying to produce on one of the worst teams in the league with probably the worst o-line blocking for him.

seriosuly. I seriously think he could have been GREAT. Well he can still be great. But he would have been greaterer if the league/laws weren't so gay.

Go fuck yourself, fatboy. It's not the NFL's business if Ricky wants to smoke weed. I remember when Michael Vick hid his weed in a fucking water bottle that he wasn't even allowed to have in the airport and I don't really remember him getting in trouble for it. I'm sure a huge percentage of professional football/basketball players smoke weed. Ricky got singled out and fucked over.
I'll let wikipedia do my re-explaining for me.
Throughout his career, the left-handed Coleman has been an effective low post scorer with a reliable perimeter shooting touch, averaging 16.5 points and 9.3 rebounds through his career. He enjoyed his best years as a member of the New Jersey Nets, where he averaged 19.8 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. However, despite those impressive numbers, Coleman is often regarded as a poster boy for unrealized potential. When Coleman entered the NBA, he was compared to elite power forwards such as Karl Malone and Charles Barkley, and expected to put up similar numbers. Instead, his career was overshadowed by his questionable attitude (lack of work ethic resulting in excessive weight gain, plus alcohol abuse and general disruptive behavior), and his penchant for injury which saw him play 70 or more games in only four of his 15 NBA seasons. A Sports Illustrated reporter once remarked that "Coleman could have been the best power forward ever; instead he played just well enough to ensure his next paycheck."
No, he's not the biggest bust ever. But he was some sort of bust.

He didn't get singled out, you fucking retard. He repeatedly failed drug tests, finally left and retired because he wasn't willing to quit, came back and failed another test. Hmmm , yeah the league is really out to get him. Also, the substances that their players are using is entirely the NFL's business. Maybe you don't agree with the rule, I don't myself, but RW knew damn well he couldn't do drugs or fail drug tests but he chose to smoke anyway. He could have straightened out the first time with just a fine, or learned that he wasn't getting away with it the second time and taken the small suspension, but he blew it two more times.

How do you blame the Bears? ..He fucking cried on draft day, held out..was a cancer in the locker room..we got rid of the better back in Thomas Jones and gave the job to Ben$on..He wasnt a great threat out of the backfield and is too stupid to know who to block so he had to be pulled out on passing downs..got into trouble and then got hurt..YEs I would say the Bears fucked up by drafting him. He had his chances in Chicago to be the guy, and yes we had a shitty o-line and still do have a shitty run blocking o-line but Forte(a second round choice, who nobody thought would do anything), is light years ahead of Benson.
Man Benson had it fucking made at Texas, that oline made huge holes that just don't exist in the NFL and he still struggled vs the better defenses.

greg oden
So far......
Are you high?? Greg Oden has been pretty damn good. 10 games in and he's close to averaging a double double with 2 blocks in 20 minutes a game. And his stats will be even better in a month, and even better than that in another two months, Oden looks great and his team is winning too.
yeah if his glass body stays intact.
True, he might have issues staying healthy, but you can't pre judge him over injuries he hasn't even had yet.
dude fucks up his knee getting off the couch. then in his debut he fucks up his ankle standing there. i hope dude proves me wrong tho i enjoyed watching him play in college and i enjoy watching the trailblazers especially brandon roy and rudy.

andrea bargnani...
so big of a bust that you dont even know who he is.
he was the 2006 1st overall draft pick by the toronto raptors. compared as the next dirk nowitzki. projected to be an offensive matchup nightmare. showed promising rookie season. then after that, it was just a downhill spiral!

You have to be kidding.
Bargnani is pretty mediocre, but that draft wasn't the greatest to begin with. Check out that top 5
Bargnani
Aldridge
Morrison
Tyrus Thomas
Shelden Williams
The best thing to come out of that top 5 is Shelden's wife.
Looking over it, I'd say Rudy Gay probably would have been the best choice for them, but who the fuck would have taken Rudy Gay #1?
