View Full Version : Fedor vs. Couture???

The following is an open letter from pound for pound king Fedor Emelianenko to UFC president Dana White, roughly translated to english:
Numerous times have I read mister White's statements on Internet concerning myself. In my opinion, allowing yourself to say those things is not a sign of a gentleman, or a grown man at all! If he candidly wants to prove himself right then let my fight with Randy happen or let me face the reigning UFC champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. In the future I wouldn't want to hear those statements in my address ever again and I won't tolerate that.
My last fight in Japan proved that I'm ready to fight anybody with any height advantage, skillset or experience. I have fought and still wish to fight the best athletes. The Randy fight is my goal number one right now, he's a great fighter and this is a very unfortunate situation when too strict and one-sided UFC contracts don't let this fight happen.
The whole world is eager to see me fight your champions, people don't want to listen to your press-conferences. I'm signed with M-1 Global and this promotion is ready to organize such fights under our banner or in co-promoted events.

One thing I did notice though about this, is that Fedor offers first for his promoters to get the fight.
If he wants these fights he has to do them on Dana White's own admittedly stupid and greedy terms, as he is the man right now in MMA promoting. Thats just how it has to be. This fight won't happen until Fedor realizes that.
And if it does there are only two possible outcomes, Fedor wins both handily if he comes in in shape, and if he's not, they will go to decision and stink up the joint.

Fedor wins easily he has shown numerous times that he is the best heavyweight in MMA to date. i would love to see this fight happen randy is highly over-rated. I dont think he can even beat Big Nog.
Also consider that Randy Couture is very old to be fighting.
Of course, he hasn't been fighting that LONG, as he got late start. Though of course in MMA its not considered that late due to the nature of the sport itself, but he's kept on going pretty long (longer than most!).
Still, he IS 43 and his body is not capable of doing what he used to be able to. Also, though MMA fighters don't get hit much compared to say... boxers, they still get hit a bit. And Randy Couture more than many, which includes being knocked out legit, and also TKO'd a couple of time by strikes (punches). Fedor is not in his prime, but he's not very far past it.
Also Fedor has a lot more fights under his belt as an MMA fighter. Some would say "Well Couture's amateur Greco-Roman background makes up for that."
Well no it doesn't, as Fedor has also been competing at a very high level (and often being at a champion) since 1997 and is still doing it even while competing in MMA! And also I GUARANTEE that his amateur judo and sambo experiences were much more rigorous than Couture's wrestling as Russian amateur athletes compete WAY more than Americas. Boxing is a good example.
Most amateur boxers in the USA who turn pro after competing through their teens until they first try for an Olympic/Pan-American/International Championships win, have a minimum of 50 fights, with usually not too much more than 100 - though of course kids who start really young like 9 years old might have 200. Many curent pro stars have even more, Oscar de la Hoya had somewhere around the vicinity of 250, Shane Mosley had almost 300, though it varies wildly as current BEST in the world fighter Floyd Mayweather Jr. had less than 100! In Russia though, its not unusual for a guy to have 500 by the time he's in his early 20s. And people who compete in Sambo and Judo fight even MORE often than boxers.
So just keep all that in mind!

I've heard it several times, they're trying to cash in on a brother vs brothers fight.
Frank was also quoted on sherdog saying after that he might rematch tito.

both fighters are so overrated, randy is boring, so is fedor, mirko is so much more exciting, unfortunately he's been very unstable when it comes to winning, frank mir used to be awesome, but then he fucked his leg up, tim sylvia is a moron, nog sucks ass(now), a lot of people say brandon vera will be the future of the heavy weight division, but eventually he'll commit himself fully to mma and cut weight to fight in the light heavyweight division because it would only be logical to do so, frank and ken aren't to fond of eachother and ken would do anything for money(i.e. get his ass beat by tito thrice)so a fight between the brothers would be likely, but as for fedor and randy having a matchup, i think there'd just be a lot of hype for it, and then we'd all simply be dissapointed when it turns out to be a three round sleeper

Damn. I dont know shit about MMA compared to most in this forum but damn, you are off. Randy and Feydor are both in the top 5 best mixed martial artists in the world at the moment. Randy has had EXCELLENT fights. Gonzaga? I dont think I even need to justify Feydor. The man is unequivically the best MMA fighter in the world. Randy is right next to him. The only way it would be a three round sleeper (are you nuts?) would be if it was rigged, but these guys aint Tito or Liddel. These guys are the top and have way too much dignity to lay down their world class status for a few more bucks.

never did i say that either one of these fighter's are not good or accomplished fighters, they are, but both have played it safe in some fights and therefore can be considered boring, i would love to see this fight happen because it would certainly help with the growth of the sport, but i just don't think it would be too great of a fight, a matcup that i'd love to see is anderson silva and gsp, now they are two fighters whom go out to finish and put on a good show

silva and gsp... ehh
Ive trained with GSP a couple times, he stops by the xyience training center in Las Vegas quiet a lot. This man is by far one of my biggest MMA idols right next to Cro and Fedor. His fights are so nostalgic to me because the way I fight and carry myself in the ring is so damn similar to how him. I wont deny that it would be one hell of a fucking match to see these 2 brawl it out, but I think most of us could see the outcome from 10 miles away. I hate to say it, but even though GSP might get real damn close, i dont think he could finish of silva.
