I'm bored so now I'm gonna bore u ppl; a few years ago I thought that this year would be the year of true anti-christ (occording to those who believe in this typa stuff).
This year will bring about the date 06/06/06 ('666' for the slow ones), mark/number of The Beast. Thoughts anyone? Anyone besides me think this notion is gonna become a big deal in the religious world? I certainly hope it doesn't there's enough crap cluttering the media already. (Not that I totally believe this notion to be crap....[those who believe in this typa stuff])

The guy who made the Gregorian calendar fucked up anyway. The calendar was supposed to start in the year Jesus was born, but the guy who made the calendar missed Jesus's birth by a few years.
No one really knows the exact year Jesus was born. But we do know that the calendar was innacurate.

The point was that, the calendar isn't REALLY based on Jesus's birthday, so the significance of a number appearing in the calendar is questionable.
But whatever, I decided this forum had too many idiots in it a while back.

666 is not a date, it is the number of the name (of the beast)...for example, in ASCII, the number of the character string "CELLPHONE" equals 666. Hebrew and Greek denoted numbers using their alphabet.. there was not numerals in those languages (to my knowledge).
There are other Eschatological interpretations of the meaning of "six hundred and sixty six", but to my understanding, none of them even speculate that it means a date. But basically the differing thoughts on understanding what the "mark of the beast" is, is the degree of symbolism that is assumed. I, personally, think that it is more literal.. although i do see (from the Book of Daniel) that there may be much more symbolism than i read into it (atleast, at present).

I thought that 616 was the real number of the beast and 666 was just a translation error in the bible.

Thats true, but they have agreed that he was most likely born in 4 BCE, but they can never be sure.
I saw a some show that at the time the whole 666 thing and what not was around the time the emperor or something (correct me if i'm wrong because it was around roman time) was making
666 a requirement to deal goods. So it could have been a metaphor or something.

666 is the number of the beast (not satan the beast is a monster of satan sent to try to be anti-christ like) not 616. Because 7 is the number of god (the perfect number)so 6 is the imperfect number.Three of the number increases the potencey of it.

06/06/06 happens once every century. This is not like a once in a millennium phenomena. If there was to be a date of the anti-christ based on the number 666 wouldn't it be 06/06/6666 instead of 06/06/2006, unless you all forgot that 2006 is the REAL year and it's not just "06".

So what!!! Cheesus, I hate when ppl don't read what the haven they respond to. The question is not over whether or not an anti-christ will be born, or the frequency of the date, it is about, WHAT DO YOU THINK WILL HAPPEN IN THE RELIGIOUS WORLD BECAUSE OF THE COMING OF THIS DATE?
Do you think there'll be a bunch of 'hooplah' about it? What do you think will happen?
Do you believe that Xians will use this in some sort of propoganda, do you think ppl will flood the media with garbage about the date?

666? There's three zero's in there, too, you know. It would be more like 060606... which is very much not "the mark of the beast" or any of the other terms for it.
